Remembrance under Covid-19 lockdown: Dawlish pays its respects to those lost in war

Local News by Philippa Davies 23rd Jul 2021

A scaled-down, socially-distanced service of remembrance took place at the War Memorial on Wednesday, November 4.

Instead of the usual parade and church service, a small group of civic dignitaries, members of the Royal British Legion and representatives of the Army, Navy and Air Force attended an outdoor service in the Memorial Garden, led by the Rev Dallas Ayling.

The names of all the people and organisations who would be laying wreaths at the memorial on Remembrance Sunday were read out during the service.

The service was filmed by Neil Salter of Dawlish Beach Cams; the video can be viewed here Dawlish Town Council Remembrance Service video

The wreaths were laid at the memorial on the morning of Sunday, November 8, with careful social distancing.

Dawlish honoured the fallen, with dignity and respect, while keeping to the Covid-19 restrictions.
