Two Dawlish councillors have welcomed the new LED lighting installed earlier this year along the Marine Parade section of the sea wall.

It was fitted by Network Rail, and will be owned and operated by Teignbridge District Council.

The lights will turn off automatically at 10pm.

Cllr John Petherick (Ind, Dawlish South West) said: "These new bespoke low level LED lights really enhance the seafront and are a great asset for the town.

"Now that the clocks have gone back and it's dark relatively quickly, the new lights open up the seawall for a breath of sea air in the early evening."

Cllr Gary Taylor (Lib Dem, Dawlish South West) said: "This is an attractive and beneficial addition to the popular promenade, which will be enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

"The lights which include a span under the railway at the Colonnade underpass will be timed to go off at 10pm to encourage people off the sea wall and back into the town before it gets too late at night and to conserve energy."
