Last week saw the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, set out the government's Budget for 2021.

The past year has been incredibly tough for individuals, families, businesses and the country as a whole, so it was critical that the Chancellor set out a budget which focused on protecting the jobs and livelihoods of the British people.

Lockdown restrictions are slowly easing in England and some things will be changing from Monday, March 8.

The biggest change is that schools will be reopening and all children can return to the classroom. Wraparound childcare, such as breakfast and after-school clubs, can also reopen.

Senior Accountant - Teignmouth

An appeal's been launched for volunteers to help with Covid testing in secondary schools in the Dawlish area.

Devon County Council said it 'desperately' needs volunteers to administer rapid tests to students, when the schools and colleges reopen on Monday, March 8.

A 'knickers appeal' has been launched by Helping Dawlish, to support girls and young women who can't afford to buy underwear.

Helping Dawlish said it became aware that some young women are having 'issues accessing knickers' and decided to take action.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak has today revealed his budget in the House of Commons.

The budget aims to provide support during what will hopefully be the final stage of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite two colder and drier spells, February ended up slightly milder and slightly wetter than average. Low pressure over Ireland and the south of England brought mild southwest winds and rain across the Teignmouth and Dawlish district. From the 6th, as low pressure moved away over France, easterly winds extended over the district resulting in a drier but cold period with frequent frosts. Atlantic frontal systems edged in from the west returning much milder south to southwest winds and leading to a rather wet and unsettled period between the 14th and 20th with exceptionally mild temperatures up until the 25th. High pressure developed across SW England for the last few days of the month, bringing chilly nights but warm and sunny days.

Dawlish Water Rotary Club has been meeting via Zoom throughout the pandemic - and the members have also been joining the virtual meetings of clubs around the world. Robin Buchanan from the club has provided this update for Dawlish Nub News.

In view of the three lockdowns and other restrictions, as you would imagine it's not been possible to hold our usual 'in-person' weekly meetings, usually at the Mount Pleasant Inn, Dawlish Warren, nor to carry out the effective kind of fund-raising we've been used to doing.

Two walkers had to be rescued by firefighters after getting stuck in mud at Mamhead on Sunday, February 28.

The pair had been walking on a public footpath in farmland when they got into difficulties.

A potentially life-saving device is being offered to vulnerable Covid sufferers in Devon – and has already been used successfully by a woman in Dawlish.

It enables them to measure their blood oxygen levels at home, providing an early warning system of what could be a dangerous deterioration in their condition.
