An alternative to a planning blueprint that was described by some as a 'developers' charter' is to be put before the four local authorities involved: East Devon, Teignbridge, Exeter and Mid Devon.

The Greater Exeter Strategic Plan (GESP) was due to be the formal planning framework for development across the four council areas, but collapsed after Exeter and East Devon pulled out last summer.

Devon is set to gain an extra MP under proposals for a shake-up of England's electoral map in 2023 – with major changes planned for other constituencies.

Across the South West, the region has been allocated 58 constituencies – an increase of three from the current number – which includes an extra seat in Devon, albeit a cross-boundary division including parts of Somerset.

A planned shake-up of England's parliamentary constituency boundaries sees only a minor tweak for this area – but big changes for other parts of Devon.

Under the proposed re-drawing of the boundary lines, the Woodland area between Denbury and Ashburton will become part of the Central Devon constituency, instead of being included in the Newton Abbot constituency. Otherwise, the borders are unchanged.
