Councillors have urged a fishing authority to get on with introducing new rules to prevent large-scale picking of shellfish from the Teign and Exe estuaries.
Currently there is no specific legal limit to the amount of shellfish, particularly cockles but also mussels and oysters, that can be collected for personal consumption in unprotected areas – a right which originates from the Magna Carta, the historic charter that provides the basis for many laws.

Covid cases have again risen in the Devon County Council area and Plymouth, but fallen slightly in Torbay.
In the week to Thursday 30 September cases increased by 20 per cent in the Devon County Council area and six per cent in Plymouth but were down by seven per cent in Torbay.

Teignbridge councillors have criticised a national planning policy which means the council may miss out on money towards affordable housing.
Originally introduced in 2013, 'permitted development rights' (PDR) allow certain changes to be made to buildings and use of land without needing planning permission.
The Ugly Duckling restaurant on the Strand in Dawlish is now closed.
It announced on Thursday 30 September on Facebook that it had closed, and thanked 'friends, customers and staff' who have supported the restaurant over the past nine years. It also wished the new owners of the restaurant well.

Teignmouth RNLI's fundraising team will come to the Strand Centre in Dawlish this Saturday 9 October to raise money for the charity.
They will be there from 10am-1pm, and their stalls will reportedly feature merchandise, collectables, and books.
