Weekend review: The Local Scoop, Dawlish | Opinion

It's still early summer and temperatures are only just topping 20 degrees, but for me ice cream is a year-round staple.
Since I consider myself a bit of a connoisseur, I'm pretty hard to please - but The Local Scoop, located next to Harrisons Amusements in the town, passed with flying colours.
Sporting a wide variety of flavours all handmade by the owner on site, it's a fresh take on a tired-out business.
Nowadays, ice cream can be mass-produced and sold by the kilo - but it can easily lose its appeal and character, with dull flavours and too many additives.
That's why The Local Scoop is such a breath of fresh air: it's getting back to basics, and giving new life to a familiar product - what other vendor can say that they actually make their own, in the building?
I ordered a tub with one scoop of Reese's peanut butter flavour, and it was completely indulgent and delicious. In a style not dissimilar to Ben and Jerry's, it had nice rich chunks of sweet peanut butter in the ice cream.
Needless to say, it put a smile on my face and I know I'll be back.
Make sure to head down to The Local Scoop and try it out for yourself - they also do teas, coffees, and milkshakes.
