'Warm and welcoming' Dawlish tea room wins award for tackling loneliness
A Dawlish tea room was presented with an 'Outstanding With Loneliness' (OWL) award at a town council meeting this week for its efforts to reduce loneliness in the area.
The awards come as part of the town council's project of the same name, which provides certificates, badges, and plaques to individuals and groups supporting the lonely.
Owner of Daisy's Tea Room Yvonne Toomer, together with staff, accepted the award on Wednesday (1 February).
The tea room was nominated by members of the public for its "warm and welcoming" atmosphere.
In particular, it was highlighted that customers "feel part of the family" and that staff give special attention to those whom they know live alone.
Staff also reportedly introduce some customers to others so they can join their table if they want company.
How to join the OWL project
Individuals, voluntary organisations, businesses, charities, and schools are all eligible to join the OWL project. You can also nominate someone or an organisation for their work.
