7th Oct 2021 | Local News

This Saturday, the Shaftesbury Theatre, Dawlish, will fling open its doors to the public and welcome them to ALL areas of the building with a huge Open Day!

Ever wondered what happens behind the scenes to make all your favourite productions happen? Now you can find out! From 10am-2pm on Saturday 2nd October, there will be a series of workshops, technical demonstrations, backstage tours and you can also find out more about how YOU can get involved.

Tickets will also go on sale on Saturday for this year's GIANT of a pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, which will play at the theatre from Friday, January 7 to Saturday 15 2022.

Meanwhile, tickets are selling fast for next week's production of the thriller The Edge of Darkness, by Brian Clemens.

After her disappearance several years ago, Emma finds that her memory is damaged; there is much she does not recognise or understand. Why does she appear familiar with certain Russian phrases; why has she such a horror of a harmless silver bell, of a portrait on the wall, of knives? Is she, in fact, Emma Cranwell? The Edge of Darkness plays from Tuesday, October 5 to Saturday 9, nightly at 7:30pm. Wednesday October 6 will be performed to a socially-distanced audience.

Completing the programme in October will be a screening of the drama The Father starring Olivia Coleman and Antony Hopkins. The Father is a 2020 drama film co-written and directed by Florian Zeller, in his directorial debut; he co-wrote it with fellow playwright Christopher Hampton based on Zeller's 2012 play Le Père.

A French-British co-production, the film also stars Mark Gatiss, Imogen Poots, Rufus Sewell, and Olivia Williams, and follows an ageing man who must deal with his progressing dementia. It is the second adaptation of the play after the 2015 film Floride. The film will be shown at 7:30pm on Saturday, October 16 and tickets are on sale now.

You can book online and keep up with all the latest news via the theatre's website and on their Facebook and Instagram pages @ShaftesburyTheatre.
