Three weeks of roadworks on the A379 through Starcross are set to begin on Monday (19 June).

The scheme will be carried out in three phases and includes resurfacing, drainage work and replacement of kerbs and manhole covers.

The first phase will see five nights of night-time work from 7pm until 11:59pm from Monday 19 June to Friday 23 June.

During those times, the A379 will be closed from The Atmospheric Railway pub to the junction with New Road. The road will be open during the daytime and at the weekend.

For the second phase, from Monday 26 June to Friday 30 June, work will switch to the daytime from 8am to 6pm.

The A379 will be closed from the New Road junction to the area just by the lower New Road junction. Devon County Council said this work has to be done during the day as it is close to the railway line. The road will be open outside of those times and at the weekend.

From Monday 3 July to Thursday 6 July, the third phase of work will revert to night-time with the A379 closed from 7pm until 11:59pm between the lower New Road junction outside of Starcross village to the area by the bus stop at the junction with Church Road.

Councillor Alan Connett (Lib Dem, Exminster and Haldon) said: "Although there will be several weeks of disruption in Starcross, the resurfacing has been long-waited for and I am delighted the project is now able to go ahead.

"This is a busy road and the A379 is the local holiday highway to the beach, so getting the resurfacing completed before the school summer holidays will also be appreciated."

During all of the closures, a signed diversion route will be in place.
