Dawlish Water Rotary seeks surplus foreign currency to help local charities
How often do we come back from a holiday abroad and find we still have left-over foreign notes and change in our pockets?
Most of us have probably accumulated all sorts of currency over the years that either we cannot use or convert.
Well now you have the opportunity to use that currency in a novel way to support charity at the same time under a scheme devised by Dawlish Water Rotary Treasurer, Robin Buchanan, and backed by the club.
"Who knows - there could be thousands of pounds overall lying in old draws and cupboards, so if you have any old currency please pass it on to us so that we can convert your currency to help Rotary-supported local charities." says Robin. " Individual amounts will probably be fairly small, but they all add up."
There are several UK companies that specialise in converting the foreign currency coins and notes that commercial banks will not accept. Generally, the only other costs are for postage and packaging.
Members of the Rotary Club have already started the process themselves by looking out and donating their old currency. For the general public, Rotary are setting up a number of collection points in and around Dawlish.
The first collection points have been agreed with the help of Assist Teignbridge at the Manor House, Dawlish, and the Strand Centre, The Strand in Dawlish. Collection times will be:
Assist Teignbridge: Weekdays 9am - 5pm
The Strand Centre: Monday to Friday 10am - 2pm and Saturday – 10am - 3pm
Other collecting points will be announced over the next few weeks. If any other local businesses would like to act as collection points, Robin would be very pleased to hear from them - his email address is [email protected]
