Something for live music fans to look forward to: Dawlish's one-day Breakout Festival

Plans are progressing well for Dawlish's one-day music festival, which will take place – Covid permitting – on Saturday, July 31.

The Breakout Festival will see live bands playing at the Marine Tavern and the Teignmouth Inn from 2pm until 11pm. Each band will play for 50 minutes and the performances will alternate between the two venues, with 10 minutes between each set to give the audience time to drink up and move from one pub to the other.

Organiser Chris Durney said all the bands and musicians are playing for no payment: "These pubs have always supported live music in Dawlish, and given that all the pubs have had a terrible time with Covid, everyone's giving up their time for nothing on this occasion - it's purely to support the two pubs that have supported live music.

"Judging by the number of people I've been told want to come, it's going to be pretty busy."

Chris also organises the monthly Underground Sessions at the Marine Tavern, where four or five bands play on a Sunday from 4pm until 8pm. These gigs attract people from as far afield as Exeter and Plymouth. He's hoping that these sessions can start up again immediately after the Breakout Festival, with the first taking place in August.

The bands that will be playing at the one-day festival are: Robin Brown 4, Ethyrfield, Dead Radio,The Gun Runners, The Johnson's Blues Explosion, The Rockeries, The Sea Dogz, Go Tell Alice and The Mighty Salads.

The festival is fully booked, but any bands or musicians who're interested in playing at future events organised by Chris can contact him by emailing Chris at [email protected]
