A Devon and Cornwall Police sergeant has been sacked over having a relationship with a high-risk domestic violence victim.

A disciplinary hearing heard the officer, who was not named, entered into a relationship with the victim following the end of an investigation which he led.

The panel found his actions amounted to "gross misconduct" earlier this month and he was dismissed without notice.

The force said his details will be submitted to the College of Policing Barred List, preventing him from working within policing again.

Head of Professional Standards Supt Jo Arundale said: "Through his actions, the officer undermined the public's trust and confidence in the police force and did not fulfil his duties and responsibilities.

"If anyone suspects a member of the force is abusing their position then please report your concerns to us."

You can report concerns about officer conduct to Devon and Cornwall Police on 101 or by email to [email protected].
