Plans to build new Dawlish house refused
Plans to build a new house in Dawlish have been refused by Teignbridge District Council.
The outline application had sought permission for a two-storey, three-bedroom home to the right of 9 Elmwood Crescent in place of the existing garage.
The new dwelling would have "mirrored" number 9 and used the same materials, forming a new terrace of three buildings with the two existing semi-detached properties.
It would also have had parking space for two vehicles, pedestrian access to the rear, and an enclosed rear garden.
Refusing the application, Teignbridge District Council said that since the plans would have used the entirety of the plot width, a gable end would have abutted the public footpath "in an oppressive manner, destroying the sense of spacing currently in place".
It added that the sole outlook for rooms at ground-floor and first-floor levels at all three neighbouring properties would have been towards the proposed development, which would have led to a "harmfully diminished outlook and level of amenity for current and future occupants".
