A petition has now been launched to ban dogs from Tuck's Plot and paths next to Dawlish Water (the Brook) after a swan was killed last month.

On 21 February, it was announced that a dog on a lead had killed the male swan of the pair that had nested and laid eggs on the small island in the Brook at Tuck's Plot.

The owner of the dog was reportedly 'utterly distraught' and tried to stop the incident from happening.

Val Hempstock, who launched the petition, said: "I set up the petition after a discussion with Don, the wildfowl warden, following yet another dog-related death of another black swan.

"I set up a "Save our Cove Cafe" petition and we won that one with Teignbridge [District] Council with over 1,000 signatures."

How can I sign?

There are two ways to sign the petition: online and in person.

To sign the online petition, like this Facebook page and comment your postcode on this post.

To sign the petition in person, you can go to the Strand Community Centre and find it on a table in the serving section of the cafe as you walk in.

The petition will later be sent to Teignbridge District Council.
