Street names with a 'swan' theme look set to be chosen for the new housing development at the Langdon Hospital site.

Dawlish town councillors were asked to suggest a few names, in addition to those put forward by the developers, Persimmon Homes.

The district council's street naming department said the proposed names 'should ideally reflect local history or be in some way relevant to the area'.

What names have been put forward?

Based on a river/swan theme, the developers have suggested Ballet Close, Feather Grove and Royal Way.

The town council's planning committee meeting on Thursday, November 12 came up with six more possible names: Bewick's, Trumpeter, Whistling, Whooper, Calm Waters and Cygnet.

It's thought only five names in total will be needed for the streets in Phase One of the development, which comprises 107 homes – so perhaps Whistling Place and Whooper Way will not see the light of day.
