Teignbridge District Council has denied planning permission to convert a vacant Teignmouth shop into flats.

The plans would have seen the former convenience store on Bitton Park Road turned into six two-bedroom or one-bedroom apartments.

The local authority said the proposed development would have been "visually jarring, incongruous and unacceptably out of keeping within the existing properties on the southern side of Bitton Park Road".

It added there would have been an "unacceptable loss of privacy" to no. 131, and that no provision for affordable housing was made (which is a requirement).
