A brand-new business called 'Memories' is set to open in Dawlish next month.

Currently setting up shop on Brunswick Place in the premises of the town's former police station, it will hold its grand opening on Wednesday 1 March.

Owners Kevin and Sylvia Jago told Nub News that they intend to have a variety of hand-picked 'gifts of distinction' for sale, such as Moorcroft pottery, Waterford Crystal glass items, collectibles, and also militaria.

The retired couple, who already have an online business and say they have people come from all over the country to view their goods at fairs, are anticipating high demand.

Sylvia said: "Kevin's had an online thing going for years and years, and we're forever being asked, have you got a shop? Can we come and have a look? Where are you based?

"We don't want everybody coming to our house, so we said what about if we had a shop close to home, because we live in Dawlish, we can promote everything we do and more.

"It's a way that people can then come and have a look and see what they want.

"Kevin deals in high quality ceramics, so we're talking Moorcroft pottery, Royal Doulton, the big well-known makes. So to display that would be fabulous.

"We also deal in other things. We've got Waterford Crystal. But it's not Antiques Roadshow - it's modern stuff.

"There's also the other side, which I deal with, which is militaria. I'm a military buff - wasn't in it, but I know an awful lot about it."

Kevin added: "We want people to come and browse and have a look and just take away their memories and if they want to come back and do something and talk to us, then all well and good."
