Christmas hampers are to be given out to five Dawlish residents who have made an 'outstanding' contribution to the community during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Last month the Mayor of Dawlish, Alison Foden, invited nominations for people who deserved a festive treat in recognition of everything they'd done for others.
She also asked for nominations for elderly people facing a lonely Christmas.
Cllr Foden she had received seven nominations by the closing date of Friday, December 4, five of which are being awarded for community service.
"They are going to Dawlish residents who have diligently given their time to helping people, and helping Dawlish, during the pandemic this year. Their contribution to the community has been outstanding, and we say 'thank you and a Merry Christmas' to them.
"Two nominations for Christmas hampers were received for people over the age of 70, most vulnerable and isolated, and I hope that these hampers will spread Christmas cheer and joy this Christmas time."
In previous years, Dawlish Town Council has run a civic award event, but it did not take place this year due to the first lockdown, and the award of the hampers is designed to help compensate for this.
Helping Dawlish's Hugs in a Bag scheme
Meanwhile, Helping Dawlish has been collecting donations for Christmas packages to be given out to individuals and families who are in need of some festive treats.
The packages, called Christmas Hugs in a Bag, will contain sweets, savoury snacks, Christmas crackers, puzzles, cards and other items to help people celebrate.
Helping Dawlish has thanked the many businesses who came forward to help: "We have had lots of support from local businesses in putting the bags together."
