So, it's Tier Two for Dawlish along with the rest of Devon – what does that mean?

Well, it means pubs, cafes and restaurants will be able to reopen next Wednesday (December 2) – but venues that don't serve food will have to stay closed.

The pubs and restaurants can serve alcohol only with 'substantial meals', and must provide a socially-distanced table service.

They must stop taking orders after 10pm, and close at 11pm.

After 10pm they can continue selling food and drink as takeaways, click-and-collect or by delivery.

People are not allowed to socialise with anyone not in their household or support bubble in any indoor setting – at home or in public – and the 'rule of six' applies both indoors and outside.

All shops including non-essential retailers, outdoor markets and car boot sales can reopen.

Gyms, sports facilities, leisure centres, fitness and dance studios, golf courses, swimming pools, riding centres and outdoor playgrounds can also reopen, with Covid-19 precautions in place.

The same applies to hairdressers, barbers, beauty salons, tattoo parlours, nail salons, spas and beauty services, massage parlours and tanning salons.

Libraries, community centres and halls can open their doors again.

The Tier Two grading will be reviewed by the Government after two weeks, on December 16.

An upbeat message from Dawlish's Mayor

The Mayor of Dawlish, Cllr Alison Foden, welcomed the impending end of lockdown, and issued this upbeat message to local residents.

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Here in Dawlish it certainly is, and the local shop windows are full of Christmas goodies and lights.

"With just four weeks to go, and after the end of this second lockdown on Wednesday 2nd December next week, it may well start to feel a lot like Christmas too.

"Our shops and cafes will be able to open too, and the Christmas lights are on and Christmas trees are up too.

"One of the highlights of yesterday was hearing that the 'daddy' swan has made an excellent recovery from avian flu, having been well cared for in isolation, and has returned to swimming in the Brook.

"However, while lockdown is ending, the Covid-19 virus hasn't gone away, and we must all continue to be cautious.

"Please remember to stay alert with wearing facemasks, using the hand sanitisers in shops and cafes, and social distancing."

"Imagine there's a horizontal Christmas tree between you and the next person in the shops, cafes, and pavements!

"With best wishes for Advent. Stay safe."
