Dawlish's HM Coastguard Rescue Team helped a person who had fallen on the railway bridge at Dawlish Warren on Friday (8 July).

When they arrived at Dawlish Warren, they were aided by members of the public and pub The Boat House Tavern and Grill loaned them an umbrella for shade.

The coastguard team moved the patient to a shaded area, and ultimately decided to take the individual to hospital without an ambulance.

A spokesperson said: "Dawlish Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked at 1038hrs by South Western Ambulance Service on 8 July 2022 to a person fallen on the railway bridge.

"The initial tasking directed the team towards Marine Parade Dawlish however the location was updated to Dawlish Warren.

"On arrival the team conducted an assessment and were aided in supporting the patient by some brilliant members of the public. Thank you to The Boat House Dawlish Warren for the loan of an umbrella for shade!

"Due to how busy the ambulance service was, the environmental factors such as the heat, and the fact an ambulance would not have been able to get to our location, the patient was placed into a stretcher and moved to a shaded area.

"Further assessments were conducted and eventually after telephone assessment with the clinical team at Ambulance HQ it was decided the best course of action was for the patient to be conveyed to hospital without the use of an ambulance.

"The rather hot team were stood down at around 1515hrs."

If you get into difficulty at the coast, you can dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
