The ongoing work by Helping Dawlish to support the community through the pandemic has been highlighted at a meeting of the town council.
The council's Events, Projects and Tourism officer Angie Weatherhead presented a report on Helping Dawlish's recent activities, and some of those planned for the near future.
She told councillors that, on the day of the meeting, Wednesday, February 3, volunteers had delivered 12 hampers to the staff of local schools and nurseries, to thank them for their hard work and boost their morale.
The Dawlish Community Larder has collected food donated by the public through the Co-op and Dawlish Funeral Care, and distributed it to those in need.
The volunteer shopping scheme re-started last month, in response to requests from people who were unable to go out during lockdown.
Angie reported that the 'fish and chip run' will also start up again by the end of February, saying, 'it's a big morale booster for isolated people'.
She said Helping Dawlish is also planning an online event to tackle isolation and engage with the local community.
Volunteers from the member organisations have been part of the team acting as marshals at Dawlish's Covid vaccination centre.
Meanwhile, another initiative is getting under way to reduce loneliness and social isolation in Dawlish, run by the town council's Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Working Group. You can read more about both of these initiatives on the Dawlish Nub News website.
