Dawlish's children will be taking extra interest in the town's shop windows from this weekend, as the town's annual Halloween Pumpkin Trail gets under way.

From Saturday, October 24 until Sunday, November 1, businesses around the town will be displaying a pumpkin in their window, and children are encouraged to see how many they can spot for the chance of winning a prize.

The trail has been organised by Ali Aitchison of Presents of Dawish, on behalf of Dawlish Chamber of Trade.

She told the participating businesses: "This year the kids have little to look forward to at Halloween, so let's try and make our pumpkins really great for them.

"The pumpkin can be real, plastic, papier mache or something stuck to your window.

"Your pumpkin could be related to your business, something popular with the kids, something relating to the current affairs or wherever your creativity will take it, the choice is yours!"

How to enter the pumpkin trail competition

Entry forms will be available from Presents and The Puzzled Sweet Shop.

Each business will give their pumpkin a name, and the children write the names on their entry form to prove they've spotted the pumpkins.

The forms should be returned to Presents at the end of the competition, and Ali will pick three winners, who will receive prizes of £20, £10 and £5.

The children will also be voting for their favourite pumpkin, and the business with the most votes will receive a box of chocolates.
