A Dawlish project to tackle loneliness by improving people's access to online resources has received a grant of nearly £10,000.

The 'Click and Collect – Tablet to Go' initiative by the Helping Dawlish organisation aims to supply tablets to people who don't have the equipment for going online.

Dawlish Town Council co-ordinated a bid for funding to the Teignbridge Covid-19 Hardship Recovery Fund, and the group has now been awarded the full amount of £9,800 over the next nine months.

10 tablets will be lent to people in the community, who will also be given training to use them.

It's hoped this will enable them to access resources that will make them feel more connected, and improve their mental wellbeing.

The town council's Events, Projects and Tourism Officer, Angie Weatherhead, said Helping Dawlish are 'enormously pleased' with the success of the application.

She said the project will be managed by Open Daw and Assist Teignbridge, with the Community Transport Association also helping by delivering the tablets to those in need.
