The community café at the former Open Daw centre is to be taken over by Dawlish Methodist Church, following the closure of the charity earlier this month.
The trustees of the church hope to reopen the cafe on Monday, June 21, with volunteers from Open Daw helping to run it.
They're appealing for other volunteers to come forward to help fill the gap left by the loss of Open Daw.
A statement from the trustees, released today (Wednesday, April 28) reads:
"It was with great sadness that we learnt of the dissolution of Open Daw, having had a long-standing relationship with them.
"We count it a privilege to be able to carry on the good work of their café in reaching out into the community in Dawlish.
"We are grateful that many of the helpers from Open Daw have already agreed to help us in this new venture.
"It may be that initially we will not be able to open five days a week as previously, but we will start with as many days as possible without over-stretching our resources
"If you feel that you would like to help, even if in some small way, please contact Christian Canning on 07712 424557. If you feel you cannot 'do much' but have a chatty personality and can help us promote a warm and friendly atmosphere, we would love you to come along.
"We are not in a position at present, to offer all of the same services that have been given in the past; we do, however, wish to continue being open to the public as a friendly meeting place where fellowship and support of each other can grow over a cuppa."
The dissolution of the Open Daw charity was announced on April 2; read more here.
