A man who got stuck in the mud near the estuary at Starcross had to be rescued by the fire brigade.

Specialist crews from Exmouth, and two fire engines from Dawlish and Exeter, were called out to the incident at 1.50pm on Saturday (October 31), along with an ambulance.

Firefighters wearing flood suits went to the man's aid, using a triple extension ladder and a rescue sled to reach him.

He was freed from the mud and looked after by the ambulance crew.
