Environmental charity Surfers Against Sewage has issued a warning for bathers at Dawlish Town Beach today (27 July) as there is a risk of pollution in the water.

The charity's free Safer Seas and Rivers Service tracks when sewers overflow and send out untreated human sewage into the sea, which usually happens after heavy rainfall.

The full warning reads: "Dawlish Town Pollution Risk Warning: Bathing not advised today due to the likelihood of reduced water quality.

"There are five sewer overflows covered by the Safer Seas Service here within 650m off the beach which can operate in heavy rainfall."

Other beaches in the local area including Dawlish Warren, Coryton Cove, Holcombe, Teignmouth, and Shaldon, are unaffected.
