Dawlish is to get a new banking hub, the UK's cash access and ATM network LINK has announced.

The search for a suitable location will reportedly begin over the next few weeks, and it is likely to open next year.

The hub will have a counter service operated by Post Office employees, where customers of any bank can withdraw and deposit cash, make bill payments and carry out regular banking transactions.

There will also be private spaces where customers can speak to community bankers from their own bank for more complicated matters that require specialist knowledge or privacy.

The banks will be working on a rotating basis, so there will be staff from different banks available on different days.

Mayor of Dawlish Rosie Dawson said: "This is fantastic news for the businesses and residents of Dawlish parish, after much work from the chamber of trade and town council staff.

"We are thrilled to see this work pay off for the benefit of many, ensuring Dawlish continues to thrive on inclusivity, community and local trading."

Conservative MP for Newton Abbot Anne Marie Morris, whose constituency includes Dawlish, said: "The continuation of face-to-face banking services will make a huge difference for small business and the local community.

"I know how hard community groups have worked to make a banking hub a reality in Dawlish - a great success story!"
