A Dawlish parent and baby group was visited last Friday (3 December) by Father Christmas - and the day also saw the launch of its self-weigh station for babies.

Father Christmas, with the help of Roots volunteers, gave out books to each of the 20 children present.

'Cygnets', a Roots Community Enhancement project aimed at reducing loneliness, is a free group for parents and children up to 18 months of age.

It meets every Friday from 10.30am to 11.45am at the Riverside Centre, and booking is not required.

The self-weigh station

The new self-weigh station features medical-grade scales for parents to weigh their babies and make sure that feeding and general growth is going well. It was funded by a grant received from Action for Children in partnership with Devon County Council.

A spokesperson for Roots Community Enhancement said: "We are thrilled to offer this additional service on Fridays at The Riverside Centre, Dawlish, 10.30-11.45. We advise strongly that all adults wear masks in the building.

"We are working closely with Action for Children and the public health team to ensure parents are using the equipment safely, within guidelines and that they feel confident when and how to ask for help."
