Dawlish man with cystic fibrosis running a mile a day for a year for charity

A Dawlish man with cystic fibrosis is running a mile every day for a year to raise money for charity.

Craig Jones, 36, set himself the challenge to stay active and to fundraise for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Macmillan Cancer Support, and the South Western Ambulance Service.

He began his just over three daily laps around Dawlish Lawn on 1 January, and has dubbed his efforts 'A Mile Round the Green'.

Craig has run two London Marathons before in 2008 and 2012, and more recently 10km runs.

He said: "I felt for a while for about a year I hadn't really done anything active and also it was a chance for me to try and do some fundraising.

"I had a real challenge in trying to pick one particular charity. In the end, I chose three.

"One, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust; also, I wanted to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

"Part of that was because my aunt had passed away last year very quickly from brain cancer and I wasn't able to go to the funeral either, so I wanted to be able to do something to honour her.

"And, I wanted to help the South Western Ambulance Service charity - my wife Robyn, she's a Dawlish paramedic.

"The last two years have been really tricky for everyone in the NHS. Those are three causes all very close to my heart and there's a hope that I can try and raise money for them throughout the whole year."
