Update: Male pedestrian dies after crash involving HGV on M5 northbound
Update 11.33am: All lanes have now reopened, according to the AA - but there are still delays.
Update 10.38am: A male pedestrian has died after being involved in a collision with a heavy goods vehicle on the northbound carriageway of the M5.
Police were called to the incident at around 4.05am today (Tuesday 1 February).
The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene and his next of kin have been informed.
The M5 northbound and A30 slip road at junction 29 remain closed.
A police spokesperson said: "Police were called to reports of a road traffic collision involving a heavy goods vehicle and a male pedestrian on the northbound carriageway of the M5 between Exeter and Cullompton 4.05am today [1 February].
"Emergency services attended and the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.
"His next of kin have been informed.
"The northbound carriageway has been closed, as well as the on-slip from the A30 at junction 29.
"It is expected that the road will remain closed for some time.
"The incident is ongoing."
Update 10:34am: Highways England has said that the road is expected to clear between 1pm and 1.15pm.
The M5 northbound is currently closed between Exeter and Cullompton for a police investigation.
The link road from the A30 to the M5 northbound at junction 29 is also closed.
Diversions are in place. According to Highways England, the road is expected to clear between 11am and 11.15am.
A spokesperson said at around 5.30am today (Tuesday 1 February): "The M5 in Devon is closed northbound between J29 (Exeter) & J28 (Cullompton) due to a police led incident.
"The link road from the A30 to the M5 northbound at J29 is also closed as a result of this incident.
"Devon and Cornwall Police are carrying out a full investigation. It is anticipated that this closure will be in place for a number of hours.
"Delays are likely on the approach to this closure, with additional journey times also expected on diversion routes.
"Road users heading northbound to J28 are advised to follow the solid black circle diversion symbol on road signs via the B3181 north towards Cullompton.
"A more strategic diversion route is available for road users heading further afield. Traffic is encouraged to follow the hollow black square diversion symbol on road signs.
"From M5 J29 join the A30 eastbound towards Honiton.
"From Honiton continue east on the A30 and A303 to the A358 near Ilminster.
"At Southfields Roundabout (Horton Cross) join the A358 northbound.
"Continue north towards Taunton to re-join the M5 at J25."
