Dawlish's first late night shopping evening of the 2020 Christmas season was hailed as a success by traders.

On Friday, December 4, town centre shops kept their doors open until around 8pm, and many local residents came out to take advantage of the extended hours.

The illuminated Christmas tree, installed two days earlier, twinkled on the Lawn, and live music added to the festive atmosphere.

The traders who Dawlish Nub News spoke to said it had 'definitely been worth staying open' and they hoped to continue the late-night shopping on the next two Fridays before Christmas.

They felt it was a shame that the Brook lights, that would have illuminated Brunswick Place, were in darkness, despite the town council's efforts to arrange for them to be switched on. Read more here

But traders, happy to be open again after the end of lockdown on Wednesday, December 2, had pulled out all the stops to decorate their windows and put illuminated Christmas trees on their shopfronts.

The Brunswick Arms is unable to open, because of the Tier 2 restrictions, but has provided a stunning display of lights on its exterior.

The Mayor of Dawlish, Alison Foden, was out doing her Christmas shopping, but found time to record a video message for Dawlish Nub News – see above.
