Firefighters from Dawlish were among those who attended a blaze at a thatched-roof pub in East Devon on Easter Sunday.

The fire broke out at the White Hart in Wilmington shortly before noon on April 4.

Fire crews from across Devon, west Dorset and Somerset were involved in the lengthy operation to bring the flames under control and strip the thatch to prevent the fire spreading.

As well as the fire appliances, the operation involved a water carrier, aerial ladder platform, welfare unit, high-volume pump, incident command unit and environmental protection unit.

The fire crews worked through the afternoon and evening to remove the thatch and cover the building with salvage sheets.

Investigations into the cause of the fire found that it had been accidental.
