A new 'adventure club' within Dawlish & District u3a has now been launched, and has had its first outing.

The purpose of the group is to offer members 'the opportunity to try out new and challenging activities together'.

The nine members of the new Adventure Club went kayaking in Exeter recently. Most were complete beginners, and so received instruction on how to paddle and how to get into and out of their kayaks.

They took a trip down to the Double Locks pub, and rested there with refreshments before heading back up the canal.

A highlight of the trip was reportedly ducking under the low Salmonpool Swing Bridge, which proved difficult due to high water, but everyone made it through unscathed.

Nobody fell in, and the members learnt enough to have a race.

The club's next adventure will take place this month at the 'Go Ape' at Bullers Hill near Kennford.

For more information on the Adventure Club, or other groups and activities offered by Dawlish & District u3a, you can email [email protected] or visit www.u3a.dawlish.info.

Dawlish & District U3A has over 140 members who meet monthly to listen to speakers on a diverse range of subjects, and has about 20 different interest groups including Great Lives, Art Appreciation, French Conversation, Wine Appreciation, Scrabble, and Gardens & Gateaux.
