Dawlish's HM Coastguard Rescue Team were called out just before 9pm on Wednesday (25 January) after a cargo ship broke free from its moorings in Teignmouth.

One small boat reportedly sank and others sustained damage in the Teign estuary. No injuries were reported.

The ship, the MV Fokko Ukena, was then safely secured.

A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said: "Dawlish Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked at 2058hrs on 25 January to assess the situation at Teignmouth Port where a vessel had broken free from its mooring at the docks.

'Teignmouth Harbour Commission worked with other companies to secure the vessel.

"The Harbour Commission also contacted the owners of some commercial and pleasure craft that were involved."
