Dawlish Carnival: Highlights to watch out for this week!

By Will Goddard

26th Aug 2021 | Local News

The Dawlish carnival has now been officially opened and will last until Friday 20 August - we've put together a list of highlights to look out for this week!

Organisers are also asking people not to come if they have tested positive for Covid-19, display symptoms, or have been asked to self-isolate.

For a full list of events, you can buy a programme online here for £1 or in most Dawlish shops including Presents of Dawlish, Puzzled Sweet Shop, The Local Scoop, Costcutter, Ten Green Bottles, and Living Dawlish Hub.

The proceeds go towards funding the carnival.

Monday: It's a Knockout!

The TV classic returns to Dawlish Lawn!

The junior round will take place from 4-5pm, and there is no entry fee. Bring a team of six to the Lawn to have a go. Age groups are 5-7, 8-10, and 11-15. Teams can be mixed gender.

The adult round will be 7-8.30pm, and feature six pre-registered teams of eight people competing for various prizes.

Tuesday: Pram race

Arguably the most hilarious event of the carnival, the judging will start at 6pm and the race at 6.45pm.

All teams are pre-registered.

Wednesday: Children's fancy dress

Free to enter, taking place on the Lawn at 2-3pm. Age groups are under 5s, 6-8, 9-12, 13+. Rosettes to be won!

Thursday: Local history talk

Local historian and resident David Force will be speaking on the subject of 'Dawlish in the 19th Century and How Brunel Changed the Town' in the marquee on the Lawn from 2-3pm.

Everyone is welcome, and the talk is free!

Friday: Duck race

The duck race will take place on the Brook at 2pm. Entry is £1, and you can buy your ticket throughout the week at the information stall.
