Dawlish Brook Lights back on after months of darkness

Dawlish's Brook Lights are on again, after months of uncertainty about whether they'd be back in operation in time for Christmas.

Teignbridge District Council flicked the switch to light up the Brunswick Place side of the Lawn on the evening of Wednesday, December 9.

Dawlish Town Council have been working hard to get the lights back on since they were turned off during the summer.

The breakthrough means viewers of the Black Swan Camera that broadcasts live-stream video of the Brook and the surrounding area will see Dawlish after dark at its best, with the coloured lights reflected in the water.

Good news for the late night shopping

It also comes in time for the second late night Christmas shopping evening on Friday, December 11, when there will be an illuminated Nativity scene on the Lawn to add to the festive atmosphere.

In other good news for that part of the town centre, the Brunswick Arms announced this week that it will be reopening this weekend, under the Covid-19 restrictions.

Under Tier 2, pubs can serve alcohol only with substantial meals, so the Brunswick will be timing its opening hours to coincide with lunch and evening meal times, and customers are asked to book a table.

The pub has put heaters in its outdoor seating area to accommodate more customers within the social distancing guidelines.

It will be open on Friday and Saturday from 12pm until 3pm and 5pm until 8pm, and on Sunday from 12pm until 5pm, with a traditional roast on the menu.
