More than 130 'wave recurve units' have now been installed on the second section of the new Dawlish sea wall.

Wave recurve units are designed to prevent waves going over the top of the wall.

Fewer than 20 reportedly remain to be installed on the second section, and more than 100 'track-side boundary wall units' have also been put in.

The sea wall

The new sea wall is split into two roughly 400m sections.

The first runs from just west of Dawlish station (Colonnade underpass) to Boat Cove. This section has now been built, but there are still some extras to be put in, such as fencing, lighting, and seating.

The second runs from the Colonnade breakwater to the Coastguard breakwater. Construction began in November 2020 and is projected to take about two years to complete.
