The organisers of a monthly charity bingo known as the "Cuddly Toy Gang" gave away thousands of pounds to local charities last month.

At Ashcombe Village Hall on 5 July, donations totalling £3,250 were presented to five local charities.

Dawlish Community Transport was given £1,250, and AIMs, the Strand Centre, St Nectans Church in Ashcombe and Talking Newspapers Teignbridge all received £500 each.

A Cuddly Toy Gang spokesperson said: ""[We] are very grateful to all the people who attend the bingo, on the first Wednesday of each month.

"In the 15 months since the charity bingo started, a total of £6,000 has been donated to local charities.

"These popular evenings could not have happened without the help of Tom Hunt for keeping them in order, Sara Cartwright who calls the numbers so expertly, Frank and Carol Waister for their excellent refreshments and the bar staff who keep everyone topped up."
