A video stream of Dawlish's black swans went live on Saturday, October 17, enabling people all over the world to view them via the internet.
Black Swan Cam has been set up by Dawlish Beach Cams and the town council, which helped pay for the ultra-modern camera and its fittings. The camera is mounted on the Sea Breeze restaurant/takeaway and viewers will be able to move it remotely to see the other waterfowl nearby, or take a look further afield at the sea and weather conditions, ships, and any trains passing through.
It is hoped that the camera will one day capture the black swans hatching and rearing their young, with the new cygnets also becoming international video stars.Dawlish Beach Cams
A black swan video on the Dawlish Beach Cams Facebook and YouTube channels went viral not long ago, and was seen by more than 18 million people worldwide. It is still being viewed by around 100,000 people every day.The live streams from the six Beach Cam cameras placed around Dawlish attracted a large number of viewers during lockdown, when people were unable to visit the beach for themselves, and Neil Salter of Dawlish Beach Cams hopes the Black Swan Cam will also be welcomed by those who cannot visit the Brook to view the swans in real life.
The Black Swan Cam was officially launched at midday on Saturday, October 17 by the Mayor of Dawlish, Councillor Alison Foden. The live stream is available on the Black Swan Cam website
