Dawlish: Local charity celebrates receiving Queen's Award for Voluntary Service

By Will Goddard 24th Dec 2021

A local charity supporting people in Dawlish, Teignmouth, and Chudleigh held an event last month to celebrate receiving the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service earlier this year.

More than 60 people came to Volunteering in Health's celebration on Monday 29 November - including several previous volunteers who helped set the charity up more than a decade ago.

Based in Teignmouth, it works with other organisations to help people live more independently, and has around 180 volunteers.

Volunteer driver Richard Winterton and volunteer befriender Nesha Baker were presented with the award by Deputy Lord-Lieutenants of Devon Robin Barlow and Gordon Evans.

One of Volunteering in Health's drivers, Peter Ward, was also awarded the British Empire Medal in 2020.

The charity has said that it 'is always looking' for new volunteers to join its team. To find out more, you can call Jess Rowe on 01626 771695.
