A 'knickers appeal' has been launched by Helping Dawlish, to support girls and young women who can't afford to buy underwear.

Helping Dawlish said it became aware that some young women are having 'issues accessing knickers' and decided to take action.

Local people are invited to buy new, packaged, bikini-style knickers and drop them into a donation box outside the Assist Teignbridge base at the town council offices.

The knickers should be in sizes 9-10, 10-12, 12-13, 12-14 and 14-16.

Donations of wet wipes – preferably biodegradable – are also requested.

The box is available for donations from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

The photo shows local resident Jill King making her donation.
